Spoiler alert: the watch is still with Mr. Dufour for its spa treatment -- but I did have a happy "rehearsal" today for the main event! The box arrives -- marked "fragile" but seemingly a bit the worse for wear! Opened with the proper implement -- things ...  

and very much in line with the Simplicity concept.

As for many of us, my rat io of watch box volume stored in rubber bins to the volume of the watches themselves is astounding! Best, Gary G

Silk, and one of my favorite possessions. Bought by my late first wife in Singapore and carried home on the plane about a dozen years ago. These days, with a new household and lots of pets, it spends its days carefully stored in the closet save for specia... 

that an entire post could be made about receiving an empty box and that this post would be interesting. Kind of like doing a television show about nothing (a la Seinfeld). Everything you do is turning to gold Gary. Can't wait for the actual watch photos. ...

Mr. Dufour tells it a lot better than I, but when he was making his series of 5 Grande Sonnerie pocket watches for AP, one of the watches (valued even then at 300,000 CHF!) was taken by an AP executive to show to a prospective client. Instead of transport...

It's a Philippe Dufour........................ So imo it's certainly worthy of it's own thread

There's somehting to be applauded for Dufour using a 'simple' box rather than the hulking monstrosities of mine that occupy various storage facilities aorund the world. It would nicely double as a travel case

...and comes in its own nice presentation box and detailed info on the specific materials and techniques involved. This one is Model B30-WMSC, number 90 in an edition of 500. Blade is copper wave Damascus with VG-5 steel as the core. The frame is Wave Mok...

Ahh, the famous box cutter. Makes my utility knife box cutter cry in shame. Certainly a magnificent damascus blade and the whole knife is a piece of art. Thanks for sharing!

but not just any ordinary one... the sight of this old empty box is much more rarer than a lot of watches and hence is very worthy of it's own thread! It's the perfect box for the Simplicity. Simple, elegant, no unnecessary bells and whistles... exactly l...

Wait until you see this: Yes, I printed out a photo of my actual watch (sent by the prior owner), cut it out, and placed it in the box. Clearly I need to go back on my medication Best, Gary G...  

I think you can get a lot of mileage out of this picture Your next step is to take a picture of the watch alongside your printed watch, and then, place this new picture on the wall alongside a monitor showing your Purist posting..... 1980s conceptual art ...

In all of those photos, all I was looking at was the rug. Oh, and nice pocket knife. More pics of the pocket knife would be appreciated.

Apparently the keys to a successful thread about an empty box include: 1. A great watch that will eventually fill the box 2. A box that is not the usual huge ego-enhancing vault 3. A cool knife to open the box (see photos added higher in the thread) 4. A ...

It will require some planning and vicious aforethought before you post back here. Believe me, you are going to have to 'go to town' on that one. Nothing short of, well, I think we should begin a list, Champagne. Not just any champagne. I want to know the ... 

...not to mention a bit close to home in a couple of categories (the pillows, for instance ). While you have done a fine job in setting out most categories, I was a bit disappointed by your willingness to allow for indeterminate provenance on the caviar. ...
