Thank you for the precis or Readers Digest summary about the Cal 89.
As you said, information about this historic movement may be "out there" but who do we trust for some semblance of academic rigour? Thus, I thank you, sir, for making a bite sized chunk for people like me.
Strangely, at least one IWC executive has said to me that s/he is not really interested in promoting website discussions about old IWC movements because "over-enthusiastic chit-chat does not sell modern watches".
Thus we need the support of the community to desseminate such information for newbies to IWC like me..........

i was actually going to bid on a gold cased cal 89 from 1964 for my collection as IWC's seem to elude me, but i was informed that parts are very hard to get hold of so on that basis i passed on it and instead bought a lovely Longines 30L in rose gold. if ...

I know this is an old post but the author took some liberties from an article John Davis and I wrote, along with our photos. Glad to have info passed on to as many as possible, but not very respectable to lift stuff from others and pass it on as original....
