I think it would be funny if an independent or fun brand made a chrono... maybe 15m? ... and branded it as ...Steak timer! ...

And I always thought IWC should be the brand to do it! Obviously it would have to be highly shock, heat, and water-resistant: a kitchen is a pretty harsh environment! You'd want an alarm function tied to the minute hand (rather than the hour hand) so you ... 

I'm sensing JLC alarm cook timer, for longer timing needing alarm (baking/smoking/etc). Maybe Moser streamliner chrono or something that counts shorter time for grill. Maybe on the bezel colors for rare, med, well.
