Automatic Movement is fine with me...
This is my very first post and I am pushed to it because of this vital discussion about a really great watch.
Thank you amanico for your interesting review, the nice pictures and also for your contribution concerning the highly-discussed question "automatic or hand wound movement". I totally agree with you.
For me the new Geophysic is a great watch. Great looking and convincing in all aspects - even with the automatic movement. The original Geophysic was produced only for a very short time and was then replaced by the Geomatic. Why? Becauce people thought at that time an automatic movement was the better choice for a real tool watch. The automatic movement was a real progress at that time for a tool watch. This is what also the 2014-version exactly is, even if it is a limited edition: It is a tool watch. And it is a reinterpretation - not a Replica. So why not using an automatic movement?
I am owner of the new version of the Master Control. The calibre 899 works absolutely precisely and reliably - like a chronometer and it even looks fantastc through the saphire case-back. In the Geomatic you even couldn't admire a new hand-wound movement because of the closed amagnetic case. You simply wouldn't recognize the difference! - Despite the fact that you now don't have to wind up your watch every morning.
What I would prefer, was a new manual wound movement with a small second in a new JLC-Dress watch. I think there is a gap between the ultra thin 849 and the automatic 899 that should be closed. I would like to see a fine finished hand wound movement bigger than the 849 with a longer power-reserve and a small second in a gold-case-watch, that I can admire through a saphire case back. For a superb solid and vintage-looking tool-watch like the new Geophysic IMHO the 891 is absolutely ok.
