has more heritage, price difference can amortized over age👍

no brainer, I'll pick the Momovox. Other brands also produces the date, but only a handful few make the alarm watch.

And there are a lot of styles of vintage Memovox to choose from to suit your taste.

You lose the water resistance, but gain a more wearable and thinner watch, for little over the price of the regular mariner

have to use the alarm function A LOT to even begin to justify the price difference.

Sounds like you perhaps already have some misgivings about the usefulness of the Memovox function but are pulled by heritage. Also note that the Memovox is somewhat thicker, and quite thick at 15.6mm, as compared to 13.9 mm for the Mariner Date. Neither i... 

Of course, not all measured thickness is the same. How two watches of similar dimensions wear on the wrist can vary significantly...

So thickness, after trying both of them, is not a topic at all. Both look good! I love the function purely from a heritage point and how it makes the dial look, with the additional ring and pointer !
