I just came back from my beloved watchmaker / teacher and he showed me a very old Panerai. Sorry I could not take pictures :-(
It is in a very bad condition (need to make a new winder rod...) and it needs a lot of work to become as it was several decades ago.
One thing really amazing was when my watchmaker (I did not specify that he works with the Philips auction house!) approached the Geiger counter to the dial. You cannot imagine how high was the level ;-)

If it is just a full service, it is ok. But if he has to repair a broken part of a caliber for instance, it could be a nightmare :-(
Watch brands have totally locked their repair service department today and it is very difficult for an independent watchmaker to find a NOS part or make a new one (need to find plans, cost which could be really expensive for the client...). Not a really g...
