My holy grail JLC watch - I cannot be happier
I remembered I posted a message in this forum but in old format long time ago, possibly in 2003 or 2004, asking about comment about an unknown watch that I have seen on my friend's wrist - big case, 3 crown, thick, plastic crystal with alarm function. That is Polaris. I knew Polaris at that time, and in these years, my brain still did not forget this piece. (Actually I have another piece that was not forgettable so far, but I am sure that one is not possible for purchase anymore)
I have been trying to search for Polaris for a very long time. But in these few years, only a few come across while some of them are high price at that time, and some are not in good condition. Some have been gone so fast by other collectors.
I have tried some vintage watches with big super compressor cases (which are rare as well, because most of them are only 38mm approximately) in these years, but still I still think these cannot replace Polaris .....
With the 2008 SIHH information, I was very excited to see the Polaris reedition as JLC really brings the authentic vintage piece back to market for collectors, for us cherishing the history. While I am still enjoying which reedition (amongst 1965 or 1968) is good (have not talked to JLC boutique or dealer for ordering one yet), I have a chance of getting one vintage Polaris E859 again in April of 2008. This is the only opportunity again in the last few years or possibly the only opportunity again in the rest of my life.
Condition is good. Hands have been changed by JLC a few years back while original owner sent it for service for a year to return.
Cannot be happier.
Understand the 1965 reedition will make it a good pair but I believe it could have been sold out already. But I am relaxing everyday looking at this .... I am waiting for my friend's Polaris for comparison when he is able to get one.
