So I guess you could say
This watch is a record keeper of the dive. Not really a diving tool to use as a reference during the dive in conjunction with other equipment.
I have heard some of the other watches with this type of "complication - depth gauge" if one can call it that use a battery to drive the depth gauge. Not sure if anyone can confirm this. I think it may be the case for the Panerai dive watch.

This means you set it to zero. Go on your dive. The max depth is registered of the dive and when you get home you reset. Or You prepare the watch by pumping it and then when you dive it shows the variable depth. Still confused. Bill
