Trend is towards smaller pieces...
Looking forward to seeing smaller and more elegant pieces. Hopefully thinner pieces as well! With the contraction in the bulk of the market, I see a divergence in the mid-complication level watches. We will continue to see entry level pieces, but less in the petit complication space, and wealthy people are still spending, so we should see some new models in the expensive complications space. But that mid-level space might get a little smaller and thus fewer new product offerings.
I also see more brands focusing on the younger generation and making products that are likely to appeal to them. As the industry needs to rely on this generation to get enamored with watches today so they'll buy upper echelon watches a decade or two from now.
Lastly, I see a lot of activity in independents. This is always harder to predict, but independent watchmaking is growing. MB&F is still doing very well. I'm expecting to see a lot of interesting products from the independents. The Ressence Type 7 shows a new design language for the Belgian brand, their interpretation of an integrated steel sports watch! Maybe we will see more bracelet watches?
