Nicolas, as ever, your reporting and photos amount to the platinum standard for content on this site. Even though I spent several hours with all of these watches in the metal on Saturday night, I awaited your review and original insights with baited breat...
Nothing evocative of JLC? Well, there are some watches which are not very evocative, such as the Extreme Lab One, or Two. Good, bad? There are two different camps. Those who only want tradition, and those who only swear by Innovation. I am in both camps. ...
They seemed to have an amazing run under Lambert, but I wonder if that\'s the direction richemont wanted to continue. I can\'t place this all on Riedo. I think the directors are responsible for succession here and the new products, at least as much as Rie...
Plenty of mad offers. I don't think we would like to see 10 crazy and new watches to come... It is too much. But 3 or 4, why not? We have to give Mr Riedo some time to come with something mad, exciting, whatever you want. Time to develop the product, to b...
I am happy and sad for the same reason: Happy, because the Geophysic family is growing, and in the same time a little bit sad: the watch won't be anymore so unique, as it was for over 50 years.. I think the new models won't be able to challenge with the o...
I see your point on your mixed feelings about the " threatened " uniqueness of the original Geophysic. Though, at that time, I mean in the end of the Fifties, the future of watchmaking was clearly automatic. Automatic movements were seen as a progress. So...
... Superb! Both the introduction and explanation about the meaning of the sophisticated complication of the dead seconds feature, the awesome photography, etc. everything exceeded my expectations about what you were to reveal us when you announced yester...
We\'ll have to see, if relevant on the wrist-looking distance.. Well, the cities non-rotating, has it\'s ups & downs.. At least you get the dark & daylight areas. " on voir".. Best, hs
But, indeed again, there was no complication, just a dedication to precision. Which is good enough for us. Diversifying the Geophysic is good for one thing: The case. I am less and less convinced by the Master Case. Ultra Thin yes, Master Control, no. So,...
... See it in the metal. I'm heading over to Beverly Hills boutique today for a private showing. Thanks for a superb report, now I've gotta have one. Besides all the amazing new features this movement offers, the "Indy Racer" steering wheel balance struct...
... Do something special for each boutique. Instead of "L.Angeles", it could be "Bev Hills", or "Manhattan" instead of "New York", for example. The dial is fantastic. I love the tremblage decoration. Gorgeous! Also love the way the hour hand moves with th...
That's a great report Nicolas, thank you. I'll have to take more time but this is what I would say, from your text and pictures: The Tirbute to Geo. seems much much more appealing in the design than the 3 hands True Second. The TS (True Second) has style ...
It is always a pleasure to welcome a true new movement from JLC. The True Second? I don't see it as a contender of the Tribute. It plays a totally different game: Innovation and Imagination. The Universal Time? My favorite, too. I find it more consistent ...
Huge work you have done here, many thanks my friend. I believe I share the same point of view as many: the True Second is surely interesting to look at but... the Universal Time is very very attractive and will certainly be a hit. Let's see that stuff in ...
First, thank you for a great review! My general impression is that these are two winners! The case is just great! Love the mix of brushed and polished surfaces. Need to see these in real to judge the size... The movement is a big improvement! Very nice. N...
... even the screws on the dial, are ok, if they can align them straight up. I find it much nicer than its VC brother. Good they didn't make a thick case. JLC was slowing down since a while or is it me? Anyway, its better to have less novelties but with m...
Yes, Fricks, JLC put the foot on the brake, these last three years. Look, for example, at what happened this year: These two Geophysic, and well, new dials on already known watches, at the exception of the Duometre Sphero moon. Past year: The Tributes to ...
... even if you are pushing it with "a touch of madness" The extrem lab was, the sphero tourbillon also, but here, feels like they are just keeping the head out of the water. Btw, missed your nice long reviews, you don't have to hibernate if they do
watch that has received so much attention (and rightfully so, it is a great offering). But the dial on this one is to die for, I am now happy to have resisted the MB as I would rather own this JLC. Nicolas, a real epic report... not that I am surprised ;-...
Thanks for the introducing the new members of the family to us. I find the WT in steel the most compelling of the group and look forward to seeing one in person. I appreciate these not having a solid casebook. The movements definitely deserve some attenti...
The see through case back is good. There is a lot to discover with these 2 watches, it takes a bit of time to understand and appreciate them. I have the feeling the UT will be a success. Best, and thanks for your feedback, Grandcomplication. Nicolas
A monumental post So much history and detail Your usual inimitable effort, commentary and pictures...a big thanks for this unveiling On to the watches... LIKES: -->A new movement! Thank you JLC for respecting the Geophysic heritage by creating a technical...
I totally agree with you on several points, such as the wording on the True Second, the fact that you have to love the way the dead second is displayed ala Quartz Watch, and the fact that I would have appreciated some polished bevels. The bevels exist, bu...
Thank you for the clarification on the hour hand. Although there is a traditional adjustment mechanism, it still seems odd that the hour adjustment mechanism doesn't jump since precision is a selling point here. But I'm satisfied as long as the traditiona...
First and foremost, thank you so much for a wonderful and detailed review! My question is in regards to non-standard time zones. What if one lives in a part of the world where the time is offset by 30 minutes? Would setting the watch to your local time me...
There is no way to set the time in places where the time is 30 or 45 minutes different. As most of the World Timers.... At the exception of the Vacheron, which has 37 ( if I remember correctly ) time zones. Best, Nicolas
You have to see them in the real, and to play with them. Dead Seconds are to be seen in the flesh. Not sure you will love that feature, but give it a try! Best, Nicolas
... You must have struggled to keep that for you that long Personally, i'm not too keen on the date (and the choice of hands?) of the true second, and not two keen on the two screws for the dial of the UT. I would stick to the TT. One day maybe... One thi...
I saw it, it is very classic. Simple. White. The problem with these 2 new offers is that you have to be fond of the dead second and of the world time complication. As for the True Second, the date is the main issue, when it comes to a Geophysic. I do get ...
Said that, I find the "simple" True Second very very nice, for my taste I prefer it rather the WT. I must confess that when I learned that the True Second has the date I was very skeptical about that (in most cases, for my taste of course, the date ruin t...
Thank you very much for giving us all so much incredible insight! Read it twice just to make sure not to miss any detail... And what great photography...! Very fine timepieces indeed - little wonder my brother had to acquire one on the spot On another not...
I like them both to be honest. As you said it right the True Second should be called a Geomatic. For the world time, agreed price is a bit steep but it's a great looking watch. Only thing I'm uncomfortable with is the screws. Need to see in the flesh to b...
Hi I was in London earlier in the week and did my normal trick - wander around a few watch shops. While I was collecting one watch from its service and looking at something else, I noticed that the shop I was in had got some Geophysics in. So thought I'd ...
Interesting feeling about the way the second hand moves with the Cal 770 / 772. I feel a lot of people will feel the same. That's the magic of the dead second. A kind of secret signature, like Platinum, looking like steel. Best, Nicolas
I really appreciate how you put this all together. I enjoyed the explanation of the dead seconds. Of course, I gave up trying to figure out how that movement worked in the diagram. I wonder if the UTC will be more popular than the simple time/date as the ...
The True Second focuses on the Dead Second. While in the UT, it is included, but the World Time is the star. Not the same approach. Best, Echi, and thanks for reading. Nicolas
I think this may be the last truly new movement jlc made for a watch under $100k? I'm tempted but as you noted, the date window is a bummer, all the other geophysics models were date free, unfortunate.
So happy with my steel TS, despite all the totally understandable negative points highlighted brilliantly by Nico (Date, automatic, etc.). Still it is one of (my?) favorite JLC, so easy to wear, and technically a marvel with its fantastic new movement. Th...
