Montblanc

But here we need to be honest as well...

In that Montblanc was a writing instrument and leather goods manufacturer long before they added watches to the portfolio, so the fact that they continue offering products beyond mechanical watches is a natural consequence of their history and heritage. That Minerva, which they have integrated, brings an equivalent horological background from 1858 onwards is also a fact and IMHO the watches from the Villeret lines show this adequately.

I am fully on board with your argumentation that the Summit is a different product from an 1858 Tachymeter and that there will be little 'cross shopping' between the two, or to put it differently, the overlap in ownership is unlikely to be particularly high. Was it a mistake to offer an 1858 watchface on the Summit? Well that of course depends on perspective but if you manage to get young people virtually interested in wrist devices beyond a smartwatch as a result, it is a success from a branding point of view. If not, I guess the P&L will show how much of an effect the company will experience in a standalone fashion.
