My Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours journey
I'd been a Montblanc fan for a number of years and had a few of their products such as pens and other accessories. A few months ago I went into a Montblan boutique in Hong Kong while vacationing and laid eyes on their watches. The Nicolas Reiussec definitely caught my attention and I was thinking to myself: "Who in their right mind would spend that kind of money on a watch?" Apparently, I was so out of touch with the watch world. Though beautiful and elegant, I just never thought it was something that would become a reality. Then once again, we passed by another boutique, also in Hong Kong, then it was my wife that saw my eyes drooling all over the NR. Then we walked in and tried on the 106487, the version with the all white dial. Prior to that moment, I had never appreciated watches because I thought it's just a tool to tell time and I had my iphone with me 24/7 anyway. But when I put the 106487 on my wrist, I instantly understood what I'd been missing out. Nonetheless, I wasn't going to spend $11,000 on something just because I liked it.
So we went back home to the US and I started my research, of course, with my wife's permission and support=)
I looked into a few grey markets which later on, I understood could be a risk, if warranty issues came up due to the in house movement on the NR. I decided to go with an AD. However, my frugalness told me I still could do better than retail. To make a long story short, one vendor in Europe claimed a discount too good to be true as I never heard back from the vendor when I was ready proceed with the transaction. Don't worry; I didn't lose anything either.
After that, I found a seller from Italy. For the few days I was contemplating, they listed the 108790 (the grey Rising Hours) !!! I remember getting totally mesmerized by the the images I saw on a MB catalog I got in Hong Kong, but at the time I thought it was so out of my price range, so I had focused my attention on the 106487 instead which I thought was equally beautiful, or at least that's what I told myself. I had not seen the 108790 in person although I'd visited quite a few stores during my research, so pressing the buy it now button actually took me a big leap of faith. The rest is history.
Now I'm a proud owner of this beauty and I don't have any buyer remorse AT ALL!!!! Btw, it's a gift from my wonderful wife too=)
Thanks for reading!!!!
