In fact the 914-916 were known, at the time (I was 19) as the VW-Porsches and were bought mainly by "I-love-Porsche-but-I-can't-afford-a-real-one" and Flower power children that found the new model innovative and somewhat "cute" and anti-establishment. We're talking about the "Rockers and Mods" era after all 
Much like many early days Panerais, the Porsche "content" was...unpalpable...beyond the plaque on the car. So: VW+Porsche=914-916, Panerai+Richemont=086 and the likes. IMO as usual

I’m perplexed. Why is the resale value of some of Panerai’s early 2000’s Ref (such as 086) are not more desired by collectors? I have a hard time understanding why one would purchase a new or newer Ref now costing $6-7k that is just a variant of last year...
