Yes, the Equation of Time (EOT) function is indeed linked to the date. It shows the difference between “true solar time” (based on the actual position of the sun) and “mean solar time” (our standard 24-hour day).
Because this difference changes throughout the year due to Earth’s elliptical orbit and axial tilt, the EOT hand must rely on the calendar date to display the correct offset.
As for the PAM 375 and its composite case: as far as I know the “brownish” composite coating was meant to be lightweight and tough at the same time. It was created through a ceramic-polymer bonding process over aluminum.
However, there were reports (especially from early batches) that the coating flaked or chipped—likely due to inconsistencies in manufacturing or surface preparation.
Later examples seem more stable. It’s part of the reason why the PAM 375 remains controversial.
I personally love its look but don’t dare to buy it. I simply don’t want to be forced to treat any of my watches like a porcelain doll.
