There is a difference in thickness between the 392 and the 312 as you can see in this picture (392 is towards the top):

Nice to see the comparison shot..
and nice to see their effort in trying to slim down the 312 case.. the Alarm Clock was a nice classic..I know someone who actually put that on a strap and wear it.. I am sure a WTB on a Rsiti site will get some attention..good luck!

Lug to lug height?

Unfortunately I don't know the lug to lug height. The strap on my 338 is a custom one I had made from vintage leather. It ended up a little thinner than I would have preferred, but it still works ok.
Update
I found where I put my micrometer. The height from lug tip to lug tip is 51.1mm.
