There certainly have been documented cases of ceramic watch cases cracking
A couple were reported on this very forum:

And there have been others:

The material looks great, is very scratch resistant but can crack. If I owned one I'd definitely make sure that it was insured against this sort of damage. It sounds like the OP does have insurance coverage so he should be made whole again.
I'd be very surprised if any manufacturer paid for this sort of repair since they will always claim that the damage occurred because of carelessness on the part of the owner (in many cases they'd probably be right) and it would be very hard to prove otherwise.

By: Grant Lee : April 24th, 2017-01:38
I am wondering if anybody out there can help me. I have a Panerai PAM 441, GMT (Ceramic) its less than 3 years old and probably only been worn 20 or 30 times, as i usually wear other Stainless watches for my Daily work life, it was purchased for me for my...
What is your complaint?
By: MTF : April 24th, 2017-01:55
Dear GEE, It is sad that your 1st post ever is a rant. It is not clear what your complaint is. 1) That your breakage is not covered by warranty? 2) The diagnosis time? 3) The repair time? 1) You broke the watch by trying to replace a part...that is not co...

1) 2) 3) This is not a rant, I was under the impression that this was a forum. Am I mistaken? Or are we only allowed to post positive experiences for fear of being moderated? Should I perhaps make a post about how in 10 years my Rolex Submariner hasn't mi...
It is OK
By: MTF : April 24th, 2017-05:44
GEE, Your post was perfectly allowed. It was polite. We have no censorship about negative experiences as long as they are cogent and empirical, to whit, of relevance. Frankly, I don't give a rat's arse about Panerai rants. I don't even have a Panerai nor ...

I know things that happen to our beloved watches can be extremely frustrating...I for once dropped watch that was my wife's gift...crystal broked...went to AD...price and turnaround time was too much for me...then I started look at alternatives...long sto...

By: Grant Lee : April 24th, 2017-23:53
Obviously it's possible, I can't recall any circumstances in where that's happened, mainly due to fact the watch has rarely been worn, is spotless. My Home insurance does cover it, however I feel I should be given a right of reply. Really leaves a horribl...
Wowzers
By: Grant Lee : April 26th, 2017-04:54
I Actually didn't bother taking photos of mine, and the watch is still in limbo, I haven't picked up yet or authorised the repair, as I wanted to pursue it with Panerai, my example is very minor, nothing like any of those examples above.

Hey mate
By: Harry2 : April 28th, 2017-12:27
I assume you're in Australia the the watch was purchased in Australia. Have a look at our consumer law, you can basically ignore the warranty period anyway. Rolex even issues a card with their watches here in Australia explaining this. Don't ever let them...

Hahaha that would be good! I should've been more specific. If the product is faulty due to the manufacturing, and the issue is not to do with wear and tear. For example, my Rolex Explorer was out of warranty. However, the crown ceased to function properly...

bought a Panerai in HongKong. During the flight back to Singapore (where he lived) dropped it on the plane seat and SAT on it. He went to Panerai in Singapore...pretending...to have it repaired F.O.C. because still under warranty of course. Panerai people...
After service
By: Rolex Lover : July 6th, 2017-04:56
First I am really sorry about your case but this do happen for Panerai in Asia. I am not sure what's the after service policy in Australia (I believe it's the same all around the world), in my country the repair fee will definitely fall into the customer ...
