Those calibers certainly do appear to be identical with the exception of that one bridge. I suspect you are correct! That in-house movement is not an in-house movement. Or, perhaps Piaget borrowed the movement from Panerai (this is equally unlikely).

I'm anticipating this PAM 338 to be a very popular piece if it really can be worn like a normal watch under a normal shirt cuff. I predict that many individuals who always wanted to wear their other Panerais to the office (but couldn't due to the size of the watch) will be keen to acquire this more normally sized watch. As for me, I think the Panerai doesn't belong in an office (the office welcomes the Panerai, but the Panerai wants to go to the beach), and I'd probably wear a different watch to the office.
