Hate to say this, especially as . . .

 

. . . I've not seen the new production Rail in the metal, but after a week, I'm beginning to agree with blomman. 

Omega has performed admirably with the latest generation of Speedmasters.  Even though they've evolved significantly, they still retain the character of the first models.  Same for the current SM300s, perhaps to an even greater degree.

With this latest Rail, though, there are so many points of departure that it's questionable whether they channel the aura of the original.  It deserves consideration on its own merits, but semblance to the legendary 2914 can't be reasonably claimed . . . at least, not to my eyes.  The second generation, even while lacking a manufacture movement, at least passed the "that's my boy!" test.
