Earlier today I had the privilege of attending an event locally to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Speedmaster. Amazing selection of 60 speedmasters from different points in time flown up from the museum and museum director Mr. Petros Protopapas was...  

Alaska Project II. There was a predecessor made in 1969 but this one dates 1972. Gorgeous step dial and radial minute track. Apollo shaped subdial hands for better legibility. Sandblasted case and bracelet to not make reflections. White dial to not absorb...

That is the Speedmaster that intrigues me the most.

Alaska IV was not a bad attempt for a re-edition but could have been done so much better and truer to its original in my opinion...

Alaska is my favorite among the various limited editions: the dial, the hands (the hours and minutes hands have a true "phantom effect"!), the secret behind its development and, moreover, the strong link with a real watch prototype... It has a lot to offe...  

Wish that they had sandblasted the case and bracelet like the original. But a very appealing piece! Thanks for sharing!
