You're on the right track,
For having posted here for the many experts to guide you. I'd agree, both pieces you've been offered seem pretty beat up, and I'd look for something better. Condition is always king for me when buying an older, used watch, for who would want to get stuck with expensive and time consuming repairs, with spares cumbersome to get. Don't buy without having a look at what's under the caseback, and having it inspected by a watchmaker if you're not able to get a good idea yourself. I'd be in no hurry to make my purchase.
Instead, enjoy the learning, dig out as much information as possible for the models you want to pick up, and then look look look, wait wait wait, till you get the perfect watch for yourself, go with your heart, and don't buy if there's even the smallest little thing you see on the watch not to your liking.
All the best,
Rishad
