The rail less travelled (pun intended)

With all the hype about steel bracelet sports watches, which industry magazines and websites have been happily fueling for the most part, hailing anything on a bracelet as the eighth wonder of the world, it is sometimes easy to forget there are so many other options out there. As Nicolas put it best, the hype is heavily concentrated in a small number of watches while there is a plethora at all price points to choose from whether you decide to go new, used or vintage. This brings me to early to mid 2000s omegas which offer excellent value in my humble opinion, with their restrained design, thin cases, great built quality plus ongoing service for decades to come, long after many of the smaller makers will have gone out of business. I always had a soft spot for the aquaterra railmaster and I was lucky to come across a mint condition example, especially in the less common 36mm size. I am looking forward to adding this model, my first omega, to the rotation next year, something tells me it will be a strong contender.
