Omega

What a difference in the various brand fourms...

And why this one's best: Those of you that participate and are so generous with your wealth of knowledge.

It been about a decade since I found out about this new fangled inter-net thing. Because of my 50 year affair with watches these were the first types of sites I sought out rather than porn. Not to worry, that was next.

I'm not sure, only because I didn't know any thing about these things, why this site appealed to me. Obviously it did and I joined. I participated with the Patek discussion group initially, then Vacheron and Lange.

My first encounter with watches was Omega. My uncle was a Patek trained watch-maker and was the only Omega AD in our area. He would invite me to sit at his bench while he did repairs. Although he taught me that Omega was the highest quality for the most reasonable dollars, he wore the best - Patek. My with and I wore "Ladies and Gents" Nautilus, daily for 2 decades. We both enjoyed 18kt. Vacheron bracelet watches for dress-up days. I was able to buy, sell, trade and even collect various different brands over the years, but Omega always held my heart. Now that the last chapter of my book "On the Road to Going Broke" is finished, I'm all Omega.

There are two things that these life experiences taught me: Had I strictly bought, sold, traded and collected only Omega, I wouldn't be so broke. Most important, it brought me to this wonderful group of sharing, kind and helpful people. Not all groups are will to share their knowledge or offer any assistance. In fact I've actually been asked to be paid for their advise.

My latest encounter was my purchase of an 1894 Homage. over a period of 3 months Art (Dr.No) helped me locate this beautiful timepiece and succesfully put it on my wrist. It came from a complete stranger 4,500 miles away with no USA referrences. Art held my hand and guided me through the muddy waters of an international deal. Between his help and me, just being the pain that I can be, it went through like I bought it next door.

Now the latest ordeal that has been added to this capture: Another dial I can't read. Yea, I know, you think I'd know by now. Obviously I'm a slow learner. However a solution has been worked out. Art solicited Mike (MSN) to advise me and show his collection of "Franken" 1894s with dials he bought from WatchCo. I noticed that some of them had steel blue/black sweeps that provided a great deal of contrast, especially against a Rose Gold dial like mine.
The search was on. I tried several different supplies to no avail. I tried several different Google searches with no luck. Then, for whatever reasons, I typed "leaf watch hand blue" and there was our friend Otto. They were not in his ordinary on-line catelog under #2 leaf hands for 269 movement. Who cares, Mike told me what sizes I needed and suggested I buy a couple pair - just in case. Needless to say they're on the way. This is before, I'll post after.

Without getting into a long list of other Omega members, starting with Jim Moose and SamJH and now Art and Mike, thank you one and all! My very best personal regards, Miki
