Yes the XXL does create some great strap options.
Compliments on a beautiful watch you've got there but frankly I'm not a huge fan of that B&R style as it is protruding from between the lugs but I know what you mean about the oem strap being too skinny. Here are some options I've tried on mine, some of which work with this oem tang buckle. This is a canvas strap from Germany 24x20mm so fits the buckle nicely. 
Plain green NATO strap cut down to a single strap:
This is a PAM style 24x24 which looks great but to wear I don't like the chunky look of the buckles:
I just got a new strap this week but have not had time to take picks. I'm hoping that it might be the best of both worlds. If you like any of these feel free to contact me for suplier details.

Now that's a watch! . . .

its great! i have the 2003 model which is 43mm i think.
i used to think it was a big watch, but in the last 4 years watches have just grown and grown. all of these lovely big watches make a rolex datejust look like a girls toy Graham
