Parmigiani

Nubia by PF and Eddy Jaquet

Once in a while, a watch will be presented to me to photograph that I will find utterly mesmerising. Whilst visiting a friend at his family antiques business in Mayfair, London, he reminded me that his father and a business partner had purchased some watches without any horological knowledge at the top of the market a number of years back. He presented a series of very lovely wristwatches and also three pocket watches. This unique piece by Parmigiani was by far the most attractive and elegant. When I reviewed the photos I noticed the initials 'E.J.' amongst the precise engraver's marks and automatically thought of one artisan: the talented Eddy Jaquet. I advised my friend that he may need to update the description on the website where the watch was being advertised for sale as Monsieur Jaquet is no 'mortal' graveur. I subsequently emailed Eddy and he confirmed that the work was indeed his (including the design) and that he had engraved both sides of the case, the gold elements on the onyx dial and the movement. The work was completed in 1997. It's fair to say that Eddy still stands alone in the world of horological engraving. Alas the watch is still for sale... Enjoy, Baruch
