Patek Philippe

No science here, but I suspect the 5070 and 5970 polarise Patek Philippe collectors more than any other watches. So, to avoid that polarisation effect, I compare just these two. For fun, how do opinions divide? I never wear the 5070P formally....only ever...  

I also love the king of cool 5070P. The 5970P, as you said, looks more serious. But not less charming. In an ideal world such as yours, getting both is the way to go. With the Vacheron Malte Chronograph, one of the nicest QP / Chrono, in my opinion. Enjoy... 

.....i am not looking to add more Chronos now....especially with the 5370 coming in. Had the 5170P not had diamonds on the dial, that would have been a big temptation. The VC is lovely, but I am in a focus phase rather than expansion. With such similariti...

....i don't have the largest of wrists and the 5970, at 40mm, is almost a perfect fit for me. For fit, I would go 5970......but its a 5070P......even at 42mm.....its the Daddy.

Choosing between the two I would prefer the 5970P because I do not like the case shape of the 5070P very much. Nevertheless both have very detailed and amazing looking movements. Enjoy! Best.

I own 5070P and would be tempted to vote for that. At the same time crono - QP combination is very Patek and thus special. To make the things even more complicated, let's speculate a bit: References 5170 & 5270 have a much more sophisticated movement than... 

I take 5370P over either 5070 or 5970, but this needs to be a simple Heads-off....5070 v 5970...... head or heart?

Naturally, 5370P is in its own class. I will get mine this year. But 5070P or 5970P? I do not know. Naturally, 5970P is more complicated but 5070P has a much more interesting case. I would throw the coin. Best, Kari

The 5970 in any metal. In the past I would have preferred yellow or rose, but I have fallen in love with your platinum case/black dial example. As to the comparison-I agree with Alkiro that the additional complication plays a part in my preference. But I ... 

Of course I am in total love with both and if I choose one I have the impression to betray the other one . Is it time to draw random and throw heads or tails instead of making a choice ? Nope, by "a small whisker of an edge" as you say I vote for...the 59...

You know I just love that watch. One Purist let me try it on, and I was hooked ever since. The 5070 is amazing, but I would roll with the QP.
