I could not see in the heavy metal the PP 5131P, but from the 2017 PP collection I was very impressed by the first 5170P photos published on the net and on our beloved site ;-)). Then, I was waiting to could see this model in real. I have to admit I LOVE ...  

really helps. The black dial 5170g was hard to read in dim light as the silver hands literally blend into the black dial. Would have to see this watch in the metal to gauge the impact of the diamond markers. I am not a fan of diamond dials except for wome... 

Round diamonds are more adapted for women's watches. Diamonds on bezel are not for my cultural policy and taste. But, baguette diamonds ONLY on the dial (not on bezel) have a masculine elegant touch and could fit for a Male attire. I like the VC patrimony...  

is it an application piece? retail price?

According to PP, the official retail price in CHF is 85,000 VAT included in Switzerland and price as of April 1st, 2017. Best, patrickh

I promise you that I too am not keen on diamonds (maybe that explains why I have four ex wives! ) but the point I am trying to make is that the watch does not look like it has diamonds on them when you look at it. We are privileged to view the watch thank...

.....i think i see the watch dial as something that should not be "adorned" with any form of precious stone or gemstone.....it is this specific decorative angle that doesn't sit with me. Like a number of others, too, i see diamonds as something for my wif...

Im very much in the 5170p corner, and your pictures only strengthen my resolve to acquire one. Blue and black dials have traditionally been colors associated with platinum Pateks, and it seems this reference enjoys both. Black in low lighting and blue in ...

42mm is too large on my wrist and Lemania too small in the 5070 case ;-)) even if it is nice on larger wrists.

I would have pulled the trigger and counting the days till the delivery. The watch is superb in every single aspect,Except for the diamonds. Best, Ahmed

Without diamonds it could never challenge the 5070. With diamonds it has even less chance. But that's just my view. Time will tell.

I can see why people like the 5170p. I can see why people believe it is beautiful. But when talk is of a "future" icon, then it gets tricky. One thing for sure, people never talked of the 5070p as a future icon. It just happened.

I mentioned P as that is what the poster discussed. The reference is special. The first manual wind chrono from PP for how many years?? 40 years?

.....5070 was the first manual wind chrono from Patek for over 40 years. It was a re-start of the manual chrono for them.

I fully understand the logical answers posted here by happy owners of 5070s. I never said that 5070s and specially 5070P were not icons still now and for long .....

....i never meant to suggest for a second that the 5070 had been in production for 40 years. What i said was that it was the first manual wind watch for 40 years..... The Ref. 1463 stopped production in the 1960s. There was then no manual wind simple chro... 

while the 3970 already used the movement from 1986. As a side note, to me, the first time we use a specific feature (movement, dial layout, lugs, hands etc...) isn't enough to make a watch iconic. If a watch is badly designed, you can have the 1st time mo... 

Was explaining to someone the other day about the 5070. It is such a unique piece, and the last of the older Pateks. I think it will be collectible in future, akin to 530. Just so unique - 5170 very mass produced IMO.

I disagree with the notion that the 5170p and the 5070p must, for some reason, compete against each other. They are quite different in their philosophies. The 5070p is a highly respected reference, and nothing will change that. The 5170p was not created t...

The 5070 is a copy of the split second model and the 5170 is really similar (although larger and much better movement) than the classic 130 or even the 530 So would you spend 100k + for a new piece or would you try and find a ref 1463 or similar model for... 

Copy to me would be if it was inspired by another manufacturers historical designs, but in this case I would not call it copy. I fully understand what you mean and do not disagree but to call both these references copies is perhaps a stretch. The choice t...
