Are you more of a 5712 or 5711 lover? And don't tell me "neither one" ;-)...  

I would probably take 5712, even better 3712. The movement is more sophisticated than 324 used in 5711 and the dial is more interesting. The strengths of 5711 are originality and 120 m water resistance. Best Kari

Indeed, the caliber 240 was a big part of my decision. I don't regret it!

I know that the original dial of Nautilus 3800 / 3700 is more the design of 5711 one but aesthetically speaking I fear I would find it a bit boring (unless 5711 P ). Since quite a time I now wear my 5712 and I find it slim, comfortable, versatile, sport c... 

Having borrowed a friend's 5711 I can tell you it's far from boring ... The only thing that bothers me is the white date window. My personal taste goes for a more busy dial, but both are exceptional timepieces.

I had the same question in mind, when choosing, 10 years ago, between the 5711 and 5712... I was almost on to get the 5980. I went for the 5712, but if I had to do it again, I would go for the 5711. Why wouldn't I go for the 5980? Because the 5960A exists... 

5980 is a nice piece, but a bit too large/thick for me, as a first (and most likely only) Nautilus that is...

If you are not going to wear it while swimming and use the water resistance feature,Go for the 5712 the movement is more refined in my books. Best, Ahmed

I'm the proud owner of a 5712 ... just curious of other Purist's opinion.

There's just something about it that attracts me. The caliber is great and reliable, but also pretty to behold. I also like how the microrotor allows you to view the entire top of the movement, unlike the more common full rotor (either 180- or 110-degree)... 

I agree with you on most points. As far as I am concerned, I like the power reserve on an automatic watch. Just to check that the movement is winding correctly (meaning enough activity from my side): when I pick-up a manual watch I an used to fully windin... 

The moonphase is an added tool so you can tell if spring tide season is just around where the tide is highest in the month on full moon. The power reserve is to me useful also as you can make your watch rest from your wrist. Placing it in your desk at nig... 

5712 is far too busy and unbalanced.

Personally, I find it great, it has this uniqueness that some people will think is unbalanced and others will appreciate the fact it is not symetric. I personally find it totally coherent and it is the one I prefer. However, I think that getting a 5711 ca... 

Indeed, both are great, and quite different. I keep loving my 5712: it has been on my wrist for almost 3 month now, and on the few occasions I wore something else, I went back to the Nautilus the next day!

My wife had it made for me, knowing how much I like the 5711. I hope to wear it one day to a gathering of Purists,,,

I Could never really make friends with the dial of 5712. I wish they had used the 240 in the 5711 though.

324 movement beats at 4hz as opposed to 3hz of 240.

3700 is a two handed. The 920 JLC was an ultra thin movement with an interesting rotor. The PP 240 is ultra thin with a special rotor. It is Patek's reply to a thin automatic and hence more coherent with the original and with the concept of the watch. I f... 

My ultimate Nautilus would be steel, with a 240, no seconds hand and no date... I've gone back and forth between 5711 and 5712 and while they're both wonderful ultimately I think I prefer the uncluttered dial of the 5711. I just want to take it to the nex...

Actually I don\'t mind the diamond indexes, could live with them. It\'s the rest of the 40th Anniversary watch that leaves me yawning a bit... Anyway, Patek, why not give us an everyday purists\' version?!? Best E.

I am biased as I have drop the 5712 when the chance was presented. I still like the calmness on the 5711 dial.

5712 is a very odd ball watch.. Sports watch with a classical Mp complication and classical analog date.. and asymmetric subdial arrangement.. So quirky but somehow it all comes together really well.. And if u look at it from 7oclock, it's actually symmet...  

Why? Because it is precisely the watch that I can imagine the eccentric Captain Nemo of the eponymous submarine wearing.

It\'s a special watch, that\'s for sure. The only thing that\'s maybe a small con is that it doesn\'t has a 120m water rating. Nitpicking though.
