The Smith is beautifully made with a sublime dial but its 13.5mm height makes it too thick for a three handed dress watch in my opinion. It does keep amazingly accurate time, not a consideration to some but at that price, one looks at everything!

No disrespect meant to the Smith but as a lover of smaller and slimmer watches, the Patek ticks all the boxes for me and at this price, all the boxes must be ticked!

The movement as you know is to die for and the watch despite being 39.5mm wears very well even on my small wrist. However, I know of two collectors who have had problems with their Remontoires so I have since focused only on time only watches. Fewer compl...

that a minute repeater would be my grail but I would find it uncomfortable somehow to place such a valuable timepiece on my wrist when I know that money could help so many people.

You are so right. *others includes people and also cats and other animals in my book!

I should get rid of all my watches and put the money into a foundation to help others but I am admittedly not as good as some are and still enjoy life's pleasures. I guess it is striking the right balance between spoiling oneself and helping others.

It's okay to have a balance. We needn't all end up penniless like Saladin, as admirable as his example is. With modern estate planning, he might have had other options!

And actually it will be a foundation for cats!!

Waiting for a watch makes the actual ownership of it even more pleasurable in my opinion. I had waited almost 6 years for the RW Smith and by the time my Frodsham arrives in 2027, it too would have been a 6 year wait!
