Patek Philippe

Hi everyone, Unveiled in 2012, the Patek Philippe 5235G is a very special piece in the brand's collection and history. Indeed, the 5235 houses the new wonderful micro-rotor 31-260 caliber (and is, as of today, the only one to) in a 40.5mm white gold case ...  

And I loved everything about the watch specially the dial colors the only thing that I still can't get over it is the separate hand for minutes and hours I beileve its not that easy to read the time at a glance. I would love to own one in the future but I... 

So many interesting reference we would like to possess one day. I must say I'm quite sure I won't have a problem with reading time personally. Anyway, thank you for your input and sharing your appeal for this watch! Cheers, Mark

when you discover a new reference (from any brand) and wish you won't like for the sake of your bank account! I remember we had this discussion about the Nautilus and we'll open that thread again around January about the upcoming Basel fair. The 31-260 is...

I don't really like: the date aperture at that cuts out of the small second sub-dial. Any incomplete subidals, not just on the 5235G, but on any watches would put me off.

Incomplete subdials or cut numerals, we all have the things we don't like, whatever the brand is. I don't have this specific problem on this one but I understand your feeling. Glad you like it too, it is a very unusual and interesting reference though it ... 

I will highlight a few positive points about this piece 1. the dial - brushed silver with blue and red enameled letters 2. case - size and brushed sides make it an amazing piece to wear 3. Movement - essentially unique 4. difficult to tell the time initia... 

I particularly appreciate your feedback in the post I linked and it is helpul for many of us. Furthermore, I think I share your "PS" opinion: they are two completely different watches and will appeal to different customers but I prefer also the 5235 "unus...

I have always had mixed feelings about it. Confession: I don't love any regulator. But I like a lot about this watch. However, in the final analysis, (sorry!) I 'hate' the 2 windows at the top of the dial. I have just never come around to this Thierry era... 

Opinion in a respectful but objective way. Thanks for playing the game so precisely. You're the first one I see who doesn't like this "2 windows" thing. This is a feature I like very much as it reminds my of 60's watches layouts (even if I prefer the 2-re...

I\'m not against them coming up with new ideas. And as always there\'s always a piece for everyone. Some piece one might like but might not like, but everyone got different taSte. From what I see, the dial configuration might be open for future developmen... 

...I went 'wow'! The reason for the 'wow' was instantaneous. I didn't stare at the watch yet, nor did I have a close-up look. What triggered the 'wow' was the immediate overall look, the color (btw, you didn't mention that the leather strap is also in blu... 

I wanted to expand my thoughts on this watch, but you said it all! I simply don't understand why it appears difficult to read to some: most of the time you are aware of hours and it is minutes matter the most - as such this watch makes it so easy to read ... 

I think I had the same excitement as the watch was looking really good, with a great new movement and ... so different from other Patek watches. The dark blue strap is indeed a very good choice and I would also consider a mid grey one. It seems the 5235G ... 

....when this watch was first released, I put my name down for it. The AD still hasn't been in contact. Having said that, even if he did get in contact I would probably decline the watch. Two reasons. First, as you hinted, although this is on the hit-list... 

from my own experience and also people I know... I was discussing about the "wow" factor with a fellow purist and it seems indeed to be a good clue about what we are really feeling. It remains high for me but trying to kown if high enough indeed Thanks a ... 

And I can see how you either love or hate it. I am however in the middle camp. It is gorgeous but one of those pieces I do not see in my own collection. Today at least, knowing from experience how tastes evolve in unexpected ways quite often. However toda...

love it ! The deign is excellent and better than all the other regulators on the market. Personally I like the apertures because they make the dial clean. Here is a shot of my 5575 and 5205 from my watch maker friend! Cheers Gordon p.s. Based on my source...

except I'm not a fan of a regulators ... at all, for some reason they just don't click with me, never had one and probably never will, but hey let not afraid you from having one, like I said the looks are great IMO, but it's just not my thing

Very innovative and a lovely movement but I only wish it was one or two millimetres smaller which might have been a bit of a challenge due to the size of the movement. The dial when catching the light can look quite different and I actually like the layou... 

and you kindly already referenced my post as an owner and almost daily wearer, so I can also answer to some of the points raised. Interesting some have commented the watch looks 'flat' - maybe in pictures this is true, but in the hand and on the wrist it ... 

I think that apertures, windows, symetry etc are elements people see very differently, this is very subjective and I can understand their view. After that, each one has to make the pros and cons and to determine what matters most. Definitely an unusual bu...

I love the look of this watch. I am considering this along with the 5960/1a. If the price keeps dropping, as I\'m seeing it do on several sites, I may have even a harder decision on my hands.

it isn't a real regulator according to Mr. Stern, cf. . However, I still like the 5235, despite it having a ''broken track'' of production and only the visual appearance of a regulator. The former makes it more interesting for me. The 5235 was introduced... 

Interesting to learn what was the idea at the beginning of the project, thanks for the link I thought that people called it like this because it looks like one and it is easier to remember it that way compared to the 4 digits references. As you emphasized... 

Patek refer to it as a 'Regulator-style' in both the 2014 and 2015 catalogues and web-site. Interestingly, they have removed reference to the movement being 'ultra-thin' in the 2015 catalogue (though it still says that on the web-site) and mention regulat...

In the video, Mr Stern said 5235 is not a real regulator. But what's the difference between 5235 and a real regulator? I thought regulator means the hours, minute and second hands in separate pivots and with a high accuracy due to its "reference clock" fu... 

Stern\'s comment was due to the fact that 5235 has apertures for the annual calendar function and therefore is not a "true" regulator. Just my own interpretation. Your thoughts ? Gordon

I guess Stern's meaning may be something related to the movement itself. May be the all three hands of a true regulator should be driven by different gear chains? Or may be it is related to the accuracy of the movement? But I couldn't find these info onli... 

They've appeared late of 17th century and were the more accurate clocks ever. One of the characterisitcs is that, to avoid unecessary frictions, the hour and minute hands are placed on their own wheel. Maybe, on the 5235, it is not the case? Also, even if... 

I can't hear it due to the background noise. Regulators were used as a reference point for watchmakers to set the time on wristwatches back in the old days. However, I'll check my ''library'' to see whether I can find a ''valid'' definition. I'm not certa...

Main revolution with the second hand in the 5235 on the PP front is a hacking second hand

as I replied just above to Henry. It is not as precize and designed to be as accurate as a Regulator. That's why T Stern says it reminds him of but that it is not in the design. On the contrary of all who call there watches regulators because the hour and...

my 5235 was +/- 1 second during 10 days constant running!

Good time keeping is a comment I read a lot when concerning Patek watches.

I love every bit of the 5235. Love it even more than all my current PPs, i.e. Nautilus (5711/1a, 5712/1a, 5712r, 5980/1r) and 5960p n 5270g. I love the very Art Deco styling of the 5235. The dial is icy cold yet so alive! Now let's have some fun with colo...

This is probably the only pp ref that I just cannot imagine with another metal.. i.e. R J .. Maybe PT/SS is ok.. That dial with that blue with white metal is just perfection. IMHO This is the only PP that I do not wish for any any other dial than the curr... 

I also thought when I saw the first pictures that is was very different from what Patek did but, in the mean time, it was so worthy of the brand. About other material: well, I think that with a RG watch, still the same brushed dial, the watch would still ... 

Not for me at all. First, the dial treatment is a little Spartan, not as elegant appearing as I would expect from Patek. I could envision an enameled dial, leaf shape hands, etc. or even a little refence 96 ish, but still with that, a hard piece for me to... 

I totally understand your Spartan wording choice. I think it is quite adequate for this reference. Some might like it as a kind of pure design and high cleanliness and other may feel it is too clean. I belong to the second team but it is mainly because of... 

Back in 2018, and it remains the best PP in my small collection of 7 PP. I love the movement, design and best of all, a regulator annual calendar, there are none on the market place for such configuration. It's a keeper for sure. Cheers to all
