Patek Philippe

I recently purchased my first Patek (5712 1a), and love it. Now I'm looking at my next addition. I've boiled it down to either 5146g or 5396g. I like them both for different reasons--the 5146 is beautiful, sort of retro, has a power reserve and is a class... 

and the grey dial would be my choice ... A very nice and classic watch with a nice complication. Sometimes I think she is just beautiful, sometimes I think the movement is too small for the size. The latter is obviously if you look at the dial. As I said,...  

The 5396G is a very nice piece, but no competitor to the gorgeous 5146. By the way, the perfect balance of the 5146G dial reminds me of my humble JLC RDM, including the power reserve indicator that I love. I wish you the best choice Marcelo

Sorry to hijack the thread but I've been thinking about whether I should trade in my JLC Master Perpetual in wg and my G.O. Karree Perpetual in ss for a 5146G. I already have a 5712G so i'm not sure if it would feel like too much of an overlap. Thoughts??... 

Had both. Never wore 5396, so it had to go. Looking back, I don't understand why 5396 appealed to me. This message has been edited by Rainer B. on 2009-06-24 07:05:17...

Despite the fact that I do not care for the subdials, I like 5146 so much that I got a second one, see pic. The white dials are gorgeous too, btw....  

Never like the 5035, 5146 etc, dial stuffed with sub-dials. The use of luminous hands and markers just out of context with annual calendar as dress watch.

I would go with the 5146. I have owned this particular watch both in J which had the 315 movement and G that had the newer 324 movement fitted. The clarity of the 5146 is very good. Today I took a long hard look at the 5396G and I have to say that althoug... 

Why not look at the discontinued 5056P? I would love the size, roman numeral, more "colorful" power reserve meter, PT ..... Just my 2 cents. Ken

1) Apertures or sub dials? 2) Wrist test: Go to your AD and try them on your wrist. See how it fits, the weight, the size, the look, sub dials or apertures easier to read. That will surely help you decide which to acquire. Do post some pix when you've bro...

You will not regret it. I fancy that through excitement you may have trouble in sleeping in the days before you collect your 5146G? LOL

I had a 5146j for about 48 hours, I much prefer the look, size, shape, and apertures of the 5135

I was wondering why the 5135 hadnt been part of this decision. is the 5135 consider a "lesser" watch to the other 2 choices?

and it is truly stunning. Pictures don't really come close. I wore it today and found myself staring at the face, realizing that I had no idea what time it said. I've seen and owned a number of high end watches, but to me these Pateks are truly in a class...
