I am just turn off by buying used from the grey market for such a high value piece. I Should check with my local Patek AD if maybe local owners would want to sell theirs instead?

Why not checking with your local AD. But there are also some Patek you can get on the grey market for a reasonable price...

My point was for example buying a large value item from a grey dealer I do not know say on chrono24 is that part that would worry me a bit

Very true, however as I wear them less then before I do find them a bit big so one must be on the right mood for them. I still bring a smile on my face when I do wear them though!
