. . . by way of comparison, the increase in power reserve exhibited by the 5450 by the replacement of a single part (the pallet fork) with a new design made of a high tech material is on the order of 30% . . . imagine the headlines if a similarly limited improvement in jet engine technology permitted a similar level of efficiency. My jaw dropped when I read your post on the 5450 because the power supply increased significantly without directly altering the power supply itself. My intuition tells me that there is something else going on with the escapement beyond what Patek is telling us, and that 'something else' is related to a shift in harmonics due to the dampening properties (or resonance) of silicon compared to metal and synthetic gemstone, but I'm really out on a limb here.
