I struggled in my recent search for one.
I owned one some years ago and stupidly sold it. When it came to buying one back recently (at a much higher price of course - DOH!) I really struggled to find a mint unpolished one full set. I am accordingly convinced that more and more are being locked away by serious collectors.

Perhaps it is precisely because of the movement....
that collectors are chasing after the piece. It makes pre-5170 chronographs (5070, 5970, 5004, 3970) more desirable, though subjective, as all post-5170 chronographs will have the infinite supply of Patek own movements. Unless Patek discovers some unused ...
Patek
Does have some left, as evident by the reissue of 5070P and 5970. They were made in limited numbers but who knows how many Patek still have in stock.
Lemania is nice but quite wide spread. Similar movement is in Omega (1863). Yes, Omega has inferior finishes. 5070 for 200000 is ridiculous. Even its retail is blown up.
5170 is better. But still is a poor value for money proposition. 5270 is better than 5170. The only Patek movement worth considering is 27-525 that can be found in 5959.
It is entirely the equation of demand and supply in the secondary market,.....
particularly the scarcity of 5070 platinum which lasted just one year in production. Hence its high premium which the potential buyer is willing and prepared to pay. In terms of finishing the question of which movements is better is debatable but I ventur...

I have been playing with 5070 & 5170P side-by-side and the smoother winding, right size of movement to the case and more sophisticated movement of 5170P really attract me. Now I just need to get a strap of the right size for my 5170P. Best Kari

Very different in character 5170p is as you say the more sophisticated movement but the 5070p has a gorgeous colour dial and strap combination.
Straps you can change.
I ordered many for my 5170 among those one having the same color as the dial with black stitching. Best Kari

Of course you won't find many, and I suspect you are right when you say that the few which were made are kept in the collections. But just one for sale? That comes as a big surprise. As for your pictures, superb! The last one is impressive. Just one thing...

On chrono24 only 2 and not 3 One is the saatchi. For a whooping 300.000 euro The other one was indeed a 5070p for 172.000 euro but this one is reserved as I said earlier in this thread You are correct about a collected man but that is also over 155k euro ...
