Interesting question. What makes someone a Collector?
I think I'm an enthousiast but like Mortitz, aspire to be a collector.
But I am not sure I know the criteria to make such a distinction.
Collector seems more respectable though and sounds better than a guy who like watches.
Is it possible to be a collector only buying new pieces?
Do you need to have all metals of a certain reference?
Do you have to have a theme? Time period? Philosophy?
Curious about how others view this.

You are probably at the nut end of the spectrum.
Whereas I am probably at the consumer end and wish I could argue I was a collector. Best regards, George

I feel you can be a 'serious' collector without having 'serious' funds. In fact it makes it more important to be serious about collecting when you have limited means. I would class myself as a collector rather than an enthusiast of Patek. I love their pie...

The reasons I think I qualify are (1) number of watches and (2) the fact that I collect based on certain coherent (at least to me) themes.

i'm a collector for many years, but recently retired from collecting "new" watches due to the high price.
I am just an ordinary guy who loves and own some fine mechanical watches.
