I feel you can be a 'serious' collector without having 'serious' funds. In fact it makes it more important to be serious about collecting when you have limited means.
I would class myself as a collector rather than an enthusiast of Patek. I love their pieces but am not always enthusiastic about the company. I'm aiming for a balanced and rounded broad collection of different eras and manufactures of which Patek has an important place but not at the exclusion of other brands.
A question for the audience- collector/watchmaker/dealer?
I am curous to find out where each of us sits on the spectrum. I understand that some are collector/watchmakers and some are watchmaker / dealers whilst other lie at either end of the spectrum. Where do you sit?- no pressure to answer if you feel uncomfor...
You are probably at the nut end of the spectrum.
Whereas I am probably at the consumer end and wish I could argue I was a collector. Best regards, George

The reasons I think I qualify are (1) number of watches and (2) the fact that I collect based on certain coherent (at least to me) themes.

i'm a collector for many years, but recently retired from collecting "new" watches due to the high price.
