is pure speculation. If somebody would know that a watch has a high value in the future, then this value would be discounted to NPV already now.
I guess neither 5040 or 5100 is highly demanded with premium prices at the moment. This means that it's unlikely that either or would make you rich. To certain degree I think that too many of us are victims of the "future high value marketing" of Patek. This is very cleverly made and we should see through the marketing and focus on watches we love.

I consider the 5100 as one of the most beautiful watch ever made in a rectangular shape (with the 5101, but it is another budget !). As I less appreciate the tonneau shape, I would of course make this trade. But (there is a "but"), the yellow gold version...
