Patek 3970 vs. Patek 5270
Not too long ago, I posted a picture of my 3970R. It's a beautiful watch, and a classic perpetual chronograph.
I've been wondering, however, whether I would get more use out of a 5270R. It's a big larger, of course, but also more modern looking and features the beautiful in-house Patek movement.
No doubt, there are those who favor the classic look of the 3970, and others who favor the more up-to-date offering. Below are side-by-side pictures of the two watches on my wrist (about 6.75 inches). Curious to hear if anyone has strong reasons to prefer one over the other. For purposes of this exercise, we can assume no price difference.

3970 all day everyday... 5270 is too big and bloated in my humble opinion. Nothing will beat the refined elegance of the 3970 (well maybe a 2499! lol).

Ah, I see!!! You also have the 5004? So, in this case, the 5270 is a reference to get to complete the collection. But it is my less favorite among these 4.
I prefer the case of the 5970 and the dial, too. I am not very fan of these 2 holes on each side of the date moon phase sub dial. But it is just me!

The group is limited to four watches, so simply adding a 5270 is not an option for now. Your question, "why get more use?" is a fair one. Perhaps it wouldn't get any more use. But it might be a more modern, robust watch so I'd be less concerned about wear...
Keep the 3970. It sits much better in your collection.
Wear it as much as you can and enjoy it. Even take it for a swim š Miles.
