Plastic is worhtless
A watch in plastic in a box is utterly useless except as to flippers as a poster here said. Shame on Patek ADs for not complying with Patek's long standing rules of delivery. PP has only itself to blame for the flipping of watches sealed and in boxes unopened. Then the internet is flooded with complaints from people who bought an unopened watch and found it does not work right or has some flaw and then want to scream at PP. The whole point of AD opened watches is to be the "last point" of quality control to ensure the watch is perfect and was not damaged in shipping. I cannot think of another brand where the watches are sold unopened in the shipping materials. Next time I buy a new BMW, I am taking delivery of the car right off the truck with all the protective foams and plastic in place. I will let you know how that turns out.

This is not a rumor.
This is what ADs are obliged to do, i.e. to unwrap any watch when it is handed over to the customer. The problem is that not all ADs comply with these rules, and I guess this will continue.

Whether dealers will comply or now time will tell. But it will be very easy to trace down who is not complying and selling sealed pieces.... so question is what the consequences will be for those. Fewer allocations perhaps? Slap on the wrist? Or just a si...

Like me, you know that some PP collectors own the same model in different metals. One to wear and the other ones to keep in the safe and speculate ☹️

I'm torn on that
on the one hand I feel sorry for every PP that needs to live a life in a plastic bag. on the other hand, I don't like the potential arrogance behind this move.
I think it's a good move.
It's definitely better, than the decision to put the name and address of the buyer into the papers. This new rule is reglementing the dealers, not the buyers. You could of course argument, that this also has an effect on buyers, but only on those gambling...
I actually wonder, why there's not more people having a problem with their address on the certificate.

People forget it's a transport case. Intended to transport the watch from manufacture to authorized dealer where it should be opened and transferred to the presentation case upon sale.

My AD has told me that and the beauty is that I can actually see a watch in the metal instead of trying to imagine it on my wrist while it is wrapped in plastic and in a box!

It has been my understanding for a few years now that AD's were supposed to cut the seal.
With all my watches this is certainly the case. I think it should be the case as anyone who does not wear a Patek and won't open it does not deserve one. I have also heard rumours that on "special application" watches the AD will be keeping the paper work...

There are very legitimate reasons why a collector who is buying a brand new Patek solely for his/her personal use would want it to come factory single sealed inside the shipping box.

I completely agree with this. The behavior of a group of grey market dealers and buyers doesn't demonstrate cause or establish proof of a problem.

All your points are spot on!
We live in a free market World without borders. It's not going away and there are many benefits overall, including for Patek. The relative ease of selling or trading a watch for whatever reason generally leads to more purchases of Pateks.
What about other brands then?
