Suitbert's image in his link is indeed a perfect example of the raised text I had observed. Seems to be a rather interesting process involved with production of that dial based on his description; an art form all it's own.
So, based on what I can surmise from this educational thread, it sounds like some references have that dial characteristic and some don't (and if they don't, it doesn't necessarily mean it's anything to be alarmed about).

Dials all differed from reference to reference with vintage Pateks and indeed some are "raised" whilst others were not...the difference being in the manufacturing process of the dial itself. Obviously the raised ones were particular to certain references ...

Yes, Vintage Patek do come with dials carrying varying signatures. Some reference numbers came with raised signatures, while others came without this. Regards, Rishad

Vintage Dials
Vedlen, I own a ref 96 from 1932 which has raised text on the dial and is produced by a process called CHAMPLEVE which is a form of enameling derived from the french and pronounced s ham-pluh-vay.
