Last week in Hong Kong, at the AD in The One in TST, they had two...yes, TWO...5170s. One was in the display case, another still in the sealed box. The salesman even offered a 5% discount.
In addition, they had a 5726, 5140 and 5960.

In that case, Patek is making a mistake !
They should reorganize distribution some way because my AD who sells quite a lot of Pateks and also the SUPER compliactions ( I mean, where do you think I had the chance to see a skymonn tourbillon irl ? I guess not many AD do sell the 5002, do they ? ;-)...
Is this such a surprise?
The watch has been received to mixed opinions... the economy is worse than ever... and Patek is at a crossroad of sorts... will any of their new models 'matter'? Outside of the most expensive models, repeaters, etc, The jury is out.
Not only that but...
...it is also for sale at one of the grey market dealers up the road. I was surprised as you were to see it in the shop window. I suspect Patek may be struggling with the middle layer of complex watches which are neither in the grand complication category...

I have a friend who has been on teh waiting list.... he has bought quite a few Pateks. It sends a certain message when you sit on a weaiting list for a long time only to see it readily available at the Salon. I saw the watch first time at Basel. I havent ...

My opinion is that the 5070 is cooler than the 5170. Keep it or you will regret it! Best, Nicolas.

have never been tempted by the 5170. Elegant? Yes. But if i was going to be critical, I would argue it lacks faults. Ha!
