While for other Rare Handcrafts there's a broader array of excellent artists, there's simply nobody like JB in his field today....This is why Patek's wood marquetry production is so rare, and he is the only artisan authorized to create these dials! ;-)
In real life they are just fantastic artworks, and under a loupe, you can easily see the slivers of wood that compose a dial, which is a very fascinating experience. I'm attaching below a closeup I took of my 5089G dial, though it will never fully convey its beauty (my apologies to Jocke, Mike H, Echi and a few others on this forum who can take REAL pictures! ;-)))
Good news is, this watch will stay with me until Thursday night for a Patek event in Northern Italy (it will head back to the bank on Friday), so this afternoon I might have a good photographer friend who'll come home...it's a rainy day but I'll definitely post more pictures if he can capture its dial well!
Cheers.
