Richard Mille

RM is a great actor of the technical fields in which cars and watches are involved

This great article was a very interesting way to make a comparison between F1 crafting and RM's machining: going very much into details (blueprints, parts crafting techs etc...) was particularly nice to see.

This is often marketing stuff in the luxury areas but your description of the F1 car design and production makes it obvious that it is not only marketing but that these watches just "simply" do as constructors would.

The parallel is striking.

It won't appeal to every watch fans but as far as I'm concerned I'm caught! I always got interested into hi-tech material involved in mechanics. Hence the reason why I like it also when included into watchmaking.

The only think I would do otherwise in the Lotus F1 RM050 is the gold and red colors addition as it is not really my taste. I prefer when colors combinations remain more sober (and not "Sauber").

This is certainly not "traditional" watchmaking but this is indeed the most extreme and tough design we can use in watches today.

More than watchmaking, I guess Richard Mille has a lot of fun applying these technologies to watchmaking.

Thanks a lot for this fantastic write-up Andrew!

Cheers, Mark
