I doubt it. I think a lot of factors played a part and it's more ''oh he has one, I should get one as well''. Yeah sure, some people actually like it but I'm not convinced about the others. In 2015/16 a lot of people also started buying vintage Porsches (964s, 993s, ...) and it spread like a virus. Everyone (with some money) had to have one and the market boomed and exploded.
People never liked the Hulk when it came out, it just sat there, then all of a sudden they had to have it. The black GMT, the ugly duckling, no one wanted it but only gained traction when it was discontinued.
No one wanted the white dial 5711 back in the day, even less so than the blue dial etc.
Saw this in a "fine jewelry" store that sells new watches and used/traded-in watches. Not a Rolex AD...
The sticker price for this used watch in the store was US$31500.00 Insane, but then a quick web search for the same watch for sale on the internet is in the US$36-40,000.00 range Makes no sense at all. ...
Totally overpriced and not worth it at all
True watch collectors are not buying these. There so many other nicer watches to get in those price ranges.
