17 years with the Rolex Sea Dweller 16660, aka Triple 6.
This month, it will be 17 years that this Sea Dweller Triple 6 is with me.
A watch a friend of mine found for me, full set, with the right amount of patina and in good condition. Needless to say that a nice one is not easy to find, as I checked quite a lot before falling on THE one.
Now you will easily understand why it was love at first sight...
This Triple 6 is from 1983, as you can see from the case number. And, as it often happened at that time, it took 5 years for the AD to sell it. something which is just incredible for us, nowadays. ; )
Why do I love this reference?
First because I have something for Transitional references such as the GMT MASTER 16750 / 16760, the Explorer 16550, the Submariner 16800 / 168000.They are a kind of " best of both " modern and vintage worlds, with their tritium indices and hands which generally develop a superb and characteristic patina ( for the vintage aspect ), and the more modern sapphire glass...
Second, and mostly, because it is a true character. Its thick case and the powerful dial are highly attractive, here.
It is not the most comfortable Rolex I have, it is quite heavy, but the presence on the wrist is incredible.
Last but not least, the " Triple 6 " reference spoke to the Vlad in me.
As you can imagine, this special Sea Dweller got some quite serious wrist time, during these 17 years. I took it with me for summer holidays...
And also at work:
Well, a faithful and old companion which will always have a special taste for me. Less sensual, more macho than my Rolex Red Submariner 1680, it has its place in my collection.
Happy 17th to the 16660!
Best,
Nicolas
