First, the watch is superb. But congratulations to you on making it even more wonderful to you. Those who own this reference understand how much charm and character it has...it needs to be worn and "lived" to understand it. Fantastic

but Rolex really used the Zapon lack on these " gilt " dial in the 50s and in the first half of the 60s.

... explanation. I didn´t know this was actually the lacquer used by Rolex on those far times. So, it is much possible that the failure of this paint under some enviromental conditions led to the changes of dial colors we collectors do like today? Always ...

Apart from adding my congratulations to the ever growing list. :) The 5508 is a gorgeous watch and one that I would love to make my birth year watch. Which ironically is the same as your lovely piece. ;)

... and of course it is a wonderful "birthyear watch" to have. Regrettably, it is 10 years "youger" than me, being from 1948, and I´m sure I won´t never find a Sub with my age! Anyway, I got a nice Rolex of my birth year which I will post very soon. Thank...
