Rolex

argh, i wrote a long post...

...but I was wrong to click page back, so i lost everything.

So, more quickly:

for me is an error to call this dial "pre-Comex".

is not pre at all, let me explain my point:

as you know very well Bill, the first batch for 5513 Comex with NO LOGO were fitted with standard serifs feet first dial...and also with no serifs, but you can't find one 5513/14 Comex NO LOGO with the so called "pre-Comex" dial.

maybe we should call it "comex graphic" instead "pre-comex" because the dial is the very same for 5513 Comex (5514 has a little bulkier buffer on the 5 letters) with LOGO.

(pic: Steve's 5514)

this dial were fitted also on the Milsubs, for me the lineup is:

MK1 - Serif dial with T
MK2 - non serif dial with T
MK3 - the topic dial, the so called pre-comex with T

(Military MK3, note the coronet)

MK4 - the same for standard civilian Maxi MK1 dial

so, to me, is wrong to call "pre-Comex" a dial fitted on 5mil case. we can find a "pre-comex" dial after the service cases up to the first Maxi dial (i mean that the pre-comex,imho, is not a maxi).

i'm not here to say how or why we should call a dial, i don't care basically, my only matter is when or not a dial is right on a case smile

But the firts batch for Comex is in the range of 2.833 (like yours my friend) and the dial must be a serif feet first, or a non serif...on latter...maybe...but surely not a so called "pre-comex"

in my opinion Rolex has used this provision of dials for special supplies to Comex and Commonwealth (LOL) Milsubs, then assembled some of on the post service/forniture cases around 5mil serial.

cheers,
chris
