Many congratulations on fulfilling your desire - may the upcoming New Year brings you joy & peace.
I had actually been seriously looking at a new time piece over the last year and several reasons, not the least among them being the financial down turn, kept me from biting the bullet. After regular visits to this site and some serious research, I had zeroed down to (a) Breguet Marine Big Date or Chrono (b) AP Royal Oak Chrono (c) VC Overseas Chrono (d) IWC Big Ingeniuer and (e) Rolex Daytona. All of these, more or less, had similar features. The Breguet went out after reading of justpen's tragic service experience - perhaps isolated but I did want to be a bit cautious. The IWC just felt to big. The AP & VC were serious contenders; however, I introspected on the additional price and the resultant opportunity cost.
I, finally, went for the Daytona in YG with a White Dial, leather strap, Arabic numerals and put a deposit on it with a part change of my JLC (I did get a fairly good exchange value on this, pretty close to what I had paid in 05! ). I was advised that the watch would be made available within 3/4 days. When I did go to collect my Daytona, I was told Rolex, inadvertently, had shipped the Daytona with Diamond dials by mistake and was offered a refund of my deposit. I then noticed a Daytona in YG with Blue Dial (& again with a leather strap, Arabic Numerals), asked about its availability and was told I could have this as an option.
I have been wearing my new acquisition for the last week and absolutely love it - it's keeping perfect time and the Blue dial is difficult to describe. It has grown on me and it looks more black towards the evening.
I have a PP an AP and another Rolex which I have been wearing for the last 10 years without a single problem - Not withstanding reluctance on the part of some, I think Rolex keep fairly accurate time, are rugged & take a fair amount of abuse, the water resistance is excellent and when and if one does want to change it, the resale value is very decent.
But I don't think this one is going anywhere - its going to remain with me.......
Best Wishes,
Mally
