Seiko

A Lovely Pair

As the water of Lake Suwa freezes in the winter, the 'Omiwatari' tradition means this is where the Gods walk over over the ice. The watchmakers at the Shinshu Watch Studio were thus inspired to create a special dial with subtle textures in blue for a hand-winding Spring Drive timepiece. The watch measures 38.5mm by 10.2 mm and houses the 9R31 manual wind movement with 72 hours of power reserve.

SBGY007 is not a limited edition but because of its popularity, most retailers reported that the model has been quickly 'sold out'.

In the middle of the Iwai River lies the Genbi Valley, one of Iwate Prefecture's most stunning and picturesque greenery scenes in Hiraizumi. In November 2021, Grand Seiko launched three models exclusively for the US market (using a Japanese painting method called Kirazuri), each with 140 pieces: SBGW273 (featuring a light green hue), SBGW275 (rendered in teal to denote the flowing waters) and SBGW277. The last named model is characterized by a medium green tone - a literal interpretation of the vegetation that lines the valley walls.

The model is slightly smaller - it measures 37.3mm in diameter and 11.6 mm in thickness. It is driven by calibre 9S64, a mechanical manual wind, again with 72 hours of power reserve.
