Hanami, Part 3 More Japanese terms to learn
I wrote the first two parts of this series in relation to a very short season for flowering trees and a Japanese tradition of picnicking under them. I have since learned that GS decided to make a series of watches for men and women that celebrate this time of the year.
Here are the 30x10mm watches, powered by Grand Seiko’s smallest automatic mechanical movement, Caliber 9S27.
With a case diameter of 30mm and a thickness of just 10.5mm, these compact 62GS-based creations are the slimmest automatic Grand Seiko timepieces today:
STGK031 with pink dial, inspired by sakura-kakushi , a phenomenon in which cherry blossoms are gently hidden beneath a blanket of snow.
STGK033 dial in frosty white draws inspiration from sakura-tsukiyo , the tranquil beauty of cherry blossoms softly illuminated under a hazy, moonlit sky.
NOTE - sakura-kakushi is not a type of sushi...

Luckily there is a viewport for this tiny new movement with thirty-five (35) jewels!

Even the escapement wheel is formed with the shape of a flower petal
Here are two of the Men’s watches which feature the Hi-Beat movement SBGH341

And in gold,
SBGH368
