Seiko

I'm going to be a stickler here...

You meant the SBGW231, not the 031 correct? The 031 was prior to rebranding, which shows Seiko on the dial at 12, and GS at 6. The 231 is what you have on your wrist I believe.

I have a little reservation of the new manual wind springdrive, because of the odd design choice of seemingly random holes in the movement plate (despite being polished countersunk) and also the blued screws but unblued slots. Also the stigma of knowing its clearly derived from the "full monty" version, as in the Eichi ii or the new SBGZ series. Those also have Seiko's little known torque return system - which changes the gearing ratios of barrel at high wind state to prolong power reserve - which is unfortunately stripped away in the new movement of the SBGY003.

But that is my biased view and theres still alot to like - these new styled cases at a modest 38.5mm and a managable 1cm thickness makes them quite dressy as a GS. Also the movement is still unique and unlike anything else in the market - only rivals itself within Seiko. The dialwork is also more elaborate than the SBGW231, of course. The blued seconds hand with a polished centre cap is icing on the cake.

The SBGW231 is smaller at 37mm but slightly thicker.
